The Dr. Vibe Show™

Recently, Dr. Vibe hosted a conversation on behalf of the UNDPAD Push Coalition in which Black Canadians discussed Anxiety: Coping During COVID-19.

The conversation featured Lesline McEwan, Registered Psychotherapist – RP, M.A., C.A.M.F.

Lesline McEwan is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

She did her graduate degree, a Masters in Individual Counselling at Saint Paul University and the University of Ottawa, and her undergraduate degree, B.A. with a double Major in Psychology
and Religion at Carleton University.

Lesline is a member of the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals (OAMHP).

She is a Workshop/Seminar Facilitator and Presenter. In addition, she is Certified Anger Management Facilitator (CAMF) accepted by Children’s Aid Society and the courts.

With over 20 year’s counselling experience, for the last seven years she has provided therapy solely by video or telephone.

She is in private practice doing individual counselling with adults addressing anxiety, depression, anger, grief, etc. She also provides service through major EAP companies.

She spent many years in the Federal Public Service working in various departments including the Treasury Board. Her last public service job was at the Supreme Court of Canada as a Program Manager.

During the conversation, the following subjects were addressed:

– What is anxiety
– Black Canadians and how they deal with mental health
– Some of the challenges that Black Canadians are facing during the conoravirus situation
– Some of the symptoms when should one see a doctor if they feel that they have a mental health challenge(s)
– Anxiety management techniques
– Helping someone who is dealing with a mental health challenge
– Handling anxiety with things we can or can’t control
– Black children and mental health during this time
– The use of online video chats at this time and what is the effect on individuals
– Wow to look for a therapist and what you expect when you see a therapist
– Parents demonstrating calmness around children during this time
– Newcomer adults with cultural barriers
– Ways one can express yourself if you are dealing with a mental health challenge
– Things that Black Canadians can do at this time to avoid and deal with stress
