The Dr. Vibe Show™
When we last ran into the National Society of Black Engineers, it was between March 31st to April 4th this year, during their annual convention in Toronto (NSBE's first annual convention outside of the United States).Well, it is been a few months since the conference, we thought that it would be a great idea to catch up with NSBE Canada to see what is going on and to have their share some moments and memories from the convention. In this episode, we speak the current members of NSBE Canada's Executive Board at Harlem Underground Restaurant. Enjoy!!We would like to thank Ayokanmi Falade, NSBE Canada Chairperson and the members of the NSBE Canada Executive Board for taking the time to share with us. Stay tuned to our site for information on the NSBE Canada conference being held at Ryerson University in Toronto from October 15, 2010 to October 17, 2010. In this episode we interview author of the book, "Detox", Vidal Chavannes. Vidal talks and shares with us his growing up in Toronto, how "Detox" became a reality and some of his influences. Here is a description of "Detox":"There are books about unrest, tensions that run through a community, and solutions for these conditions. In "Detox", by social observer and activist Vidal Chavannes, readers are pulled into the history, psychology, and culture of the Black community. An edgy and sometimes painful narration, Chavannes shares his frustration and occasional rage at the combination of conditions that foment increased conflict in a community already struggling for acceptance...and survival. Spurred by the tragedy that became known as Bloody Sunday, when four young Black men were gunned down by other young Black men in the City of Toronto, Chavannes considers the causes and implications of this terrible event, and explores the attitudes and behaviours of local educators and police, and all those factions struggling to deal with a diverse, possibly explosive, and potentially dynamic environment."Vidal was born in and is a resident of Greater Toronto. Not only is he a book author but he is an educator, activist and a motivational speaker.
