Dr. James Thomas Jones III is an award-winning and celebrated History Professor who is an expert in Race Studies, Manhood Studies, and Cultural Diversity. A graduate of The Ohio State University, Dr. Jones has earned the following degrees:

This year, as Canada celebrates its 150th anniversary, ByBlacks.com would love to also celebrate Black Canadian fathers that provide the necessary emotional and financial support for their children daily.

The Father Project will showcase over 150 Black fathers from across Greater Toronto and highlight their perspective on being a dad in this modern day society.

In the profiles, each father will reflect on their relationship with their own father and how that has affected their relationship with their children.

The men selected will be drawn from various walks of life showing the diversity in ethnic background, marital status, sexuality, religious beliefs and socioeconomic standing within Canada. The Father Project want to demonstrate and celebrate inclusivity in parenting.

Two of the participants of The Father Project, Mello Ayo of The Lions Circle and RogerDundas of ByBlacks.com shared about some of their fatherhood journey.

During our conversation, they talked about:

– The story behind The Father Project
– Their reflections on how they were raised by their fathers
– How are they raising they children differently from the way their father raised them
– The biggest misconceptions and biggest concerns when it comes to black fatherhood

Between Sept 2004 – Feb 2006, Tad Hargrave dedicated himself to learning his ancestral language, Scottish Gaelic, in both Nova Scotia and Scotland. He can speak Gaelic pretty good now. He also has a blog called Healing Whiteness: An Exploration of the European Indigenous Soul. he writes at Dear White Men on Facebook and he co-starred in Canada’s second Gaelic language film, The Fiddler’s Reel.

Tad currently lives in Edmonton, Alberta (traditionally known, in the local indigenous language of the Cree, as Amiskwaciy (Beaver Hill) and later Amiskwaciwaskihegan (Beaver Hill House) and his ancestors come primarily from Scotland with some from the Ukraine as well. He is drawn to conversations around politics, history, ancestry, healing and how those all intersect.

Dr. Marcus Bright is a Political Commentator and the Executive Director of Education for a Better America. He previously served an Adjunct Professor of Public Administration and Political Science at Lynn University, Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University. Bright received a Bachelor’s Degree in Government and World Affairs from the University of Tampa, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Florida International University, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University.

LeRon L. Barton is a writer from Kansas City, Mo that currently resides in San Francisco, Ca. He has been writing poetry, screenplays, and short stories since he was way young. Anthony Carter combines his love of theatre, writing, storytelling, and black queer feminist theory to create projects that inspire all to greatness. He was a semifinalist in the Strawberry One Act Festival 2007 with his play Breakfast for Dinner. His book Unfettered Mind: The Importance of Black Male Mental Health, released in 2012, offers several winning strategies for remaining mentally healthy and emotionally resilient in a rapidly changing world.

Mr. Carter’s second book, Strong Stuff: Tips on Surviving and Thriving Despite Unemployment, offers insight on maintaining self-esteem and personal friendships while one searches for work. Based on personal experiences (2.5 years of unemployment and some homelessness), this latest book is full of exercises and quick easy to read and apply tips for thriving despite being jobless. In February 2016, he is publishing his first collection of Sci-Fi/ – speculative fiction short stories entitled Rules of Reality.
