Dr. Thomas L. Ryer is a husband, dad, granddad, certified life coach, spiritual counselor, as well as Associate Pastor of Upon This Rock Ministries in Mount Vernon, New York. He is also CEO/Founder of Transitional Life Coach Spiritual Counseling LLC & Transitioning Into Society, Inc. Many are amazed with Dr. Ryer’s life story. Randall Barnes is an nineteen-year old author, internet personality, public speaker and mentor who currently resides in Macon, GA. Randall is already renowned for his positive, realistic, moral driven writings.

His first novel The Diary of Aaliyah Anderson has garnered over 55,000 reads on Wattpad.com and universal acclaim. He writes for the popular news website Urban Intellectuals, the relationship blog Courting Her and literary blog Straight, No Chaser. Randall is also the author of the eShort Riverview High: Circumstances, which hit number #2 on the Amazon charts in the week of its debut, sitting right under bestselling author Zane’s I’ll Be Home For Christmas the weekend of the debut of her movie Addicted.

Randall is now a freshman Middle Grades education major at Fort Valley State University. His book The Diary of Aaliyah Anderson is available for check out at the Henry A. Hunt Memorial Library at Fort Valley State University and all of the other 31 University System Of Georgia libraries, including the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech. He also was the first author to kick off the inaugural FVSU Author’s Series on October 14th. Along with his entrepreneurship, Randall consults over 35 Fort Valley State University students. His tutees include graduating seniors, sports players and even graduate students.

Karen Jewels understands the life challenges that many women face trying to keep everything together. Drawing from her own personal struggles and her interactions with other women, “So many people are fighting ” Karen says, “fighting depression, poverty, lack, loneliness, abuse…the list goes on. Lloyd J. Vassell is a sales and marketing professional with more than 30+ years in the consumer goods, multi-media and high-tech industries. While working for Avon Products’ Pacific Marketing Group, Chancellor and Trefoil Broadcasting Companies, and Sun Microsystems, he excelled in growing the business, creating long-lasting relationships and penetrating non-traditional markets.

In 1997, Lloyd joined the Marketing Department of Sun Microsystems as the Sr. Manager of Corporate Branding and Global Sponsorship. Installed the policies and procedures that allowed for smoother acceptance and delivery of Corporate sponsorships. During his tenure, he worked on the sponsorships of the McLaren West Mercedes Formula One racing team, NBA, NHL, and NFL properties. His largest challenge was in developing the Sun Microsystem Par-3 Challenge, a PGA Tour event.

In 1999, Lloyd left Sun to create eSportNetwork; a digital content management company specializing in producing collegiate and amateur sports for the Internet’s broadband communities. He was savvy enough to negotiate and secure the digital rights for the Pac-10 and Big-10; developing and producing content before his larger counterparts realized the value of the content.

In 2003, Lloyd obtained his General Building and General Engineering licenses and built The Vassell Group, a certified minority-owned construction company. His firm specialized in luxury residential, commercial and public works projects.

In 2013, after suffering a serious health challenge, he decided to pursue his passion…cooking and food! He is building Vassell Foods Inc. into a leader in the Specialty Condiment segment of the Specialty food industry. He has taken his personal and family recipes, and is creating flavor profile not recently seen in the industry. Supporting his vision, Vassell Foods recently secured a contract with a branch of the military.

Lloyd is married to Lauren and they have two boys; They live in Oakland, California.

Chef Joe Friday was born in North Carolina, raised in Okinawa, Japan, trained in French Cuisine. His impressive culinary journey began when he enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America to train in pastries and savories.

At the age of 20, he was one of 10 pastry students selected globally to work in the international culinary program at Walt Disney World. Six months in, Friday’s superiors recognized great talent, and placed him on the “hot line.” There, is where Friday found his love and passion for savories and has been refining that talent ever since.

Within three years time, he had worked his way up to sous-chef and had successfully moved around to various restaurants within the Disney family. Friday was exposed to different cuisines and cooking techniques while working with influential chefs such as Chef Martin Yan (from “Yan Can Cook”) and Disney’s Executive Chef, John State.

After he apprenticed in Norway and England, he returned to Japan to perfect the culinary experience of his childhood; the art of Japanese noodle making. Friday took a position at the world renowned Nobu Wakiki, Honolulu. This was a pivotal moment in Friday’s career were he understood his identity as a chef. With a love for Honolulu, he furthered his career and established himself as the sous-chef at the Hilton Hawaii Village and shortly after became the Executive Chef at Giovani’s.

Seeking tutelage from Canadian renowned Chef Jason Bangerter, Friday assisted as the chef-da-partie in the opening of Toronto’s Luma by O&B at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. In the Fall of 2011, Friday joined the team at Bar Mozza (part of the Alimento Fine Food Emporium) downtown Toronto, as executive Chef.

Chef Joe Friday is also a co-founder and host of The Underground Chef Co.(UCC) which was founded in 2013 with the objective of providing Chefs and restaurateurs a platform to help promote and support the culinary community. UCC works with to-be-discovered Chefs in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa and their battles challenge Chefs to create several dishes from secret ingredients in under one-hour and provide audience goers with a real-time experience of life in the kitchen.

Chef Joe Friday will be appearing today (November 12, 2016) at the Gentlemen’s Expo. We had the opportunity to speak recently. During of our conversation, he talked about:

The C.A.L.L. is a collaborative effort between Dr. Towanna Freeman and 17 male co-authors who worked to create the ground-breaking anthology. Each of the individuals who contributed to the book had a story to tell that was relevant to an entire generation of young Black men. The contributors’ life stories inspire, motivate and connect with young men to empower, create new opportunities and give them hope.

In its February 2016 pre-launch, The C.A.L.L. soared to the #1 spot in three different categories- Cultural Heritage, Inner Child and Leadership.

With the previous and current spate of events involving the victimization of young black men, The C.A.L.L is a very timely resource. Young men, especially those on the threshold of subscribing to the negative stereotypes created by society, are invited to answer The C.A.L.L and step up to their inherent greatness. The one message that Freeman hopes the readers grasp is that they are important and can make a difference.

Recently, we had four co-authors appeared on the show. They were: Dr. Nicholas Dillon, Kevin Johnson, Dr. William L. Howard and Claude McFarlane.

Shanita Hubbard is a student of motherhood, passionate social justice advocate, and writer. Her passion for social justice stems from a personal understanding of how families of color are disproportionally impacted by mass incarceration. This passion has been translated into action in the form of a diverse, justice centered career. From working as a therapist for youth on probation, operating job readiness programs for formally incarcerated adults, directing youth alternative-to-incarceration programs, grant writing, and now to a Criminal Justice Ethics Professor, Shanita continues to find creative ways to combat social injustice. The Gentlemen’s Expo is a celebration of all things that encompass a true gentleman.

This year's event is being held in Toronto on November 10 - 12, 2016 at Metro Convention Centre.

In Canada, there is a dark secret that is increasing in rate and intensity. Alongside the war on drugs and weapons, human trafficking is the third most profitable crime in Canada. As the subculture of predators are growing, our girls are more at risk now than ever of becoming victims. Daughter Project Canada is an initiative for the prevention, intervention, and restoration of Canadian girls at risk of sexual exploitation.

Cathy Tollefson is the Coordinator of Daughter Project Canada.

Cathy was on our show to talk about human trafficking and Daughter Project Canada.
