As a graduate student at Fisk University, Aisha asked Dr. Raymond Winbush to chair her thesis because 1) he was one of the most renowned voices in black culture and academia, and 2) he was a Prince fan. His scholarship and guidance led Aisha to an early career as a professor of social sciences and later an administrator in higher education.

Aisha has also served as a director of education and policy research centers and on the staff of legislative commissions. She previously served on the Executive Board of the CT Young Democrats’ Women’s Caucus, an avid campaigner and has remained active in politics and public policy.

Jill Jones is our special guest for this conversation. Ms. Jones is activist, feminist, former collaborator with Paisley Park.

On the September 20, 2020 edition of Black Canada Talking™, the guest was Roger Caesar.

Roger Caesar is a 4 time Speech Champion. A 3 time international award winning speaker and a 3 time semi finalist at the World Championships of Public Speaking. He has spoken at TEDx, MoMondays, Speaker Slam, Fearless Voices, Flip The Script and Brampton Mastermind. His dynamic and charismatic style has landed him in many places including Jamaica, California, Boston and New York City.

He is the proud owner of Caesar Transport Inc. A family black owned business who has just recently celebrated their 36th year anniversary. In 2018, he was the recipient of the City of Brampton Volunteer Award for helping start up entrepreneurs.

He has dedicated his time to his community and the youth leadership programs. He continues to contribute to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, Knights Table food bank in Brampton and recently working with TD Canada teaching speaking presentations to youth. Roger is a motivational speaker who helps others to develop their speaking skills and maximize their greatness.

The objective of Canada’s Volunteer Awards is to recognize volunteers and bring national prominence to the contributions individuals, not-for-profit organizations, social enterprises and businesses make to their communities through volunteering. This aligns with the Government of Canada’s interest in promoting innovative solutions to local problems. The goal of the awards is to inspire Canadians from all walks of life to find new ways of making a difference in their communities.

Recently, Henri Huard of Employment and Social Development Canada was on our show talking about Canada’s Volunteer Awards.

Aisha K. Staggers had her first major publication, an album review, in The New Haven Register while just a sophomore in high school. Another series of reviews published in The Hartford Courant followed. By the time she reached college, Aisha was writing for the literary magazine and interning at a local radio station, ABC-affiliate as a writer in the news department and in the A&R department of an independent record company.

Richard M. Wright, MA (he, him, his) is a Jamaican New Yorker who lives in Florida. He received his Masters at the California Institute of Integral Studies, where he studied Expressive Arts Therapy. Richard also completed the Healthy Masculinity/ Bystander Intervention training with Men Can Stop Rape. Combining these skill sets, Richard created art-based workshops that foster consent culture and healthy masculinities with movement, drama and play. The interventions develop empathy, integrity, accountability, and a value for our own and each other’s boundaries and humanity.

Richard writes for Colorlines Magazine, where he explores themes of masculinity, love, liberation, healing, and accountability. He was also published in the very timely, groundbreaking anthology Ask: Building Consent Culture, edited by Kitty Stryker. As a cisgendered straight man, he strongly believes that it is important for him to be accountable and represent by doing this important culture shifting work towards a paradigm that respects the boundaries and humanity of ourselves, women, girls, non-binary folks, and everyone else too.

Recently, Mr. Wright was on our show talking about Masculinity, Love And Liberation.

Kenneth Braswell is the Chief Executive Officer of Fathers Incorporated, a widely recognized national and international nonprofit organization supporting fathers, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers that provides capacity building services to thousands of organizations working to ensure that fathers contribute to the healthy well-being of their children.

He brings 29 years of collective work experience managing and leading fatherhood and community programs. Additionally, he serves as the National Director of the National Responsible Fatherhood Clearing House (NRFC) directing and guiding the strategic activities of the NRFC.

Recently, Mr. Braswell was live on our show talking about the 2020 Million Fathers March Virtual Event that is being held on September 25, 2020 and The Blueprint Virtual Town Hall Forum which is being held on September 29, 2020. During the conversation, Mr. Braswell was joined by Lawrence Wilbon. Mr. Wilbon serves as the Business Development Manager for Fathers Incorporated. With over 20 years of non-profit experience, he is tasked in assisting the organization with funds development and strategic partnerships. Prior to his current position, he has served as an executive director of a local non-profit. He is married with two children and reside in the Metro Atlanta area.

The Million Fathers March (MFM) is an opportunity for dads, uncles, grandfathers, coaches, mentors, clergy, men’s groups and organizations to show their commitment to the educational lives of their children throughout the school year by escorting children to school on this day.

Fathers Incorporated presents a virtual Town Hall Forum to examine the definitions and social reality of fatherhood for Black Fathers. The event is called The Blueprint: Reimagining the Narrative of the Modern Black Father and will be streamed on September 29, 2020 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Eastern) across several platforms.

In the newly crafted report, Fathers Incorporated are highlighting the research shows that shows supporting responsible fatherhood is critically connected to lifting Black men and their current and/or future children out of poverty while laying a firm foundation for their success in life. We recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with innovative strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth. We simply want to address the question “WHY DOES POVERTY LOOK LIKE ME?”

After earning a BS degree in Business Administration from Southern Nazarene University and an MBA degree from Rice University, Galen went on to an award
winning career with Imperial Sugar, Kraft Foods and The Coca-Cola Company. While in ever-pursuit of a corner office, Galen took an 18-month developmental role as an internal coach with The Coca-Cola Company. His passion, expertise and ability to connect extended the assignment to 8 years.

Today, Galen is a World Coach Institute Certified Executive Coach and member of the Goleman Emotional Intelligence Meta-Coach cohort. He hosts the The Leadership Toolbox Podcast podcast and cohosts the International Masterminders Blogtalk radio show.

Galen has worked with more than 875 corporate executives, CEOs and non-profit leaders across the United States, Canada, Mexico and England. He is a member of the International Coaching FederationHundred Life Design Coaching NetworkPear Coaching NetworkNational Speakers Association and Global Speakers Federation.
