Black Canada Talking™ is a live online event that provides Black Canadians opportunity to give their takes and POVs on stories that are of importance to them. The guest on the November 22, 2020 edition of Black Canada Talking™ was Donna Paris. Donna Paris is, among many things, an artist, an educator, a counselor, a mom, and a grandmother. She is a multigenerational African Candian, born and raised in Nova Scotia but has called Toronto home for the past 37 years. She has recently retired from a career as a teacher with the Toronto District School Board. Donna believes that it’s important to know our history – who came before and what it cost them. She knows that in order for us to move forward in our lives and reclaim the brilliant, powerful, Black beings who came into this world, we need to tell our stories. It’s only in going back that we truly get to have our present self. Donna is a collector of stories. She believes that black history is forged by the lives, stories, and varied experiences of Black people. Her goal is to provide a platform for Black Canadians to share their rich history. A history that is often not included in the history books or in school curriculum. She wants to hold space for Black people to share their tales of racism and discrimination, as well as the stories that demonstrate the strength and determination that helped them stand strong and claim their place in Canadian history. Donna also believes it’s important that we be the ones telling our stories. #OurVoicesOurStories. During our conversation, Donna talked about: – Some of her background and going to Dalhousie University, struggling growing up with Black people and having a Black identity You can find out more about In The Black Canada via: Website Visit The Dr. Vibe Show™ at www.thedrvibeshow.com Please feel free to email us at dr.vibe@thedrvibeshow.com Please feel free to “Like” the “The Dr. Vibe Show” Facebook Fan Page here God bless, peace, be well and keep the faith,
