The Dr. Vibe Show™

Black Canada Talking™ is a live online event that provides Black Canadians opportunity to give their takes and POVs on stories that are of importance to them.

Recently, Stacy “Destiny” Savary was on Black Canada Talking™ talking about her journey and her book The Perfect Storm: Navigating the Storms of Life in Messy Waters.

For over 21 years, Stacy has been a noteworthy leader within her community, providing social support and outreach, especially within the Caribbean community. From working at homeless shelters, grass-root organizations, to coordinating children camps, mentoring programs and outreach events for at-risk youth in disenfranchised areas in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Stacy has always had a passion for working with marginalized groups, specifically women and youth. While she has had a passion to help others, she also faced numerous health challenges that required her to pause and to seek her own healing. She has been diagnosed with Endometriosis; a disorder where the tissue that makes up the uterine lining (the lining of the womb) grows outside the uterus. Endometriosis is usually found in the lower abdomen, or pelvis, but can appear anywhere in the body. Despite her challenges, she vowed to maintain a positive, balanced and fulfilling outlook on life. Through all her trauma, struggles in dealing with an incurable disease, and disability, Stacy managed to share her life’s journey through this book, in hopes to inspire and empower others.

During our conversation, Stacy talked about:

– Some of her background
– Finding out that she had a chronic illness
– Some of the health challenges she has and does deal with
– At ten years old find out that she had health challenges
– Who provided her support during the early part of her journey
– What does her mother mean to her
– How has health challenged her when you was growing and how does it impct others
– Being told ten years ago that she may not be able to have children
– The next part of the journey, going through a braking point and deciding that she was going to live
– Getting the help that she needs outside of Canada and being successful and some of her current health challenges
– How does she deal with the mental stress that she is going through
– Has she thought about taking any legal action
– How is she doing financially
– Does race or ethnicity influence endometriosis
– The story behind The Perfect Storm; Navigating the Storms of Life in Messy Waters
– Challenging moments
– What keeps her going
– What are some of the changes that she would like for women have this condition
