Black Canada Talking™ is a live online event that provides Black Canadians opportunity to give their takes and POVs on stories that are of importance to them. Aisha K. Staggers had her first major publication, an album review, in The New Haven Register while just a sophomore in high school. Another series of reviews published in The Hartford Courant followed. By the time she reached college, Aisha was writing for the literary magazine and interning at a local radio station, ABC-affiliate as a writer in the news department and in the A&R department of an independent record company. As a graduate student at Fisk University, Aisha asked Dr. Raymond Winbush to chair her thesis because 1) he was one of the most renowned voices in black culture and academia, and 2) he was a Prince fan. His scholarship and guidance led Aisha to an early career as a professor of social sciences and later an administrator in higher education. Aisha has also served as a director of education and policy research centers and on the staff of legislative commissions. She previously served on the Executive Board of the CT Young Democrats’ Women’s Caucus, an avid campaigner and has remained active in politics and public policy. Ms. Jones is an activist, feminist, and a former collaborator with Paisley Park. Laura “La La” Key is a powerhouse vocalist, livestreamer and active Real Estate professional. She has managed a major live-streaming App and teaches courses in social media promotion. When she is not busy making joke memes, cussing out politicians or cooking amazing gourmet dishes, she travels the globe recording and performing original music with her artist husband. Most recently the pair traveled to Rio de Janerio, Brazil and Porto, Portugal to perform vocal parts in the studio for their latest album release. Back in September 2012, Dr. Vibe had an idea to host live online conversations with Black men from different countries. The first episode of Dr. Vibe’s Allies was held live online September 19, 2012 and featured Black men from Canada, the United States and England. There many live events that featured Black men live from at least three countries talking about various subject from a Black male lens. Dr. Vibe’s Allies happened usually on the last Thursday of every month from September 2012 to February 2015. Well .. Dr. Vibe’s Allies (older, wiser and many other things) are back and they are ready to continue the mission!!! On this episode of Dr. Vibe’s Allies, The Allies talked about Policing And Black Men. Black Canada Talking™ is a live online event that provides Black Canadians opportunity to give their takes and POVs on stories that are of importance to them. Recently, Chef Bashir Munye was on Black Canada Talking™. Chef Bashir Munye is part of a new generation of Toronto chefs who are inspired by global cuisine while creating the future of local and sustainable food ideas. A true global child, Bashir’s experience of food embraces many geographical and cultural boundaries. Born in Somalia, and raised in Italy, he has called Toronto home for the past 22 years. Growing up in the Mediterranean fresh, seasonal foods was the norm. Chef Bashir continues this tradition through his farmer’s market operations where he connects to the local farming and artisanal food business community. His approach to cooking is simple. He is a passionate advocate for promoting diverse food representative of Toronto multicultural communities. He believes and advocates for access to good quality food for everyone. Currently, Bashir is a culinary professor at George Brown College, Food consultant/ recipe developer and an academic researcher.
