Beth Ostrander

Beth Ostrander coaches those “affected by religion” to bring Pleasure into their sex lives.

Beth’s own journey is what has made this her life’s work. After struggling with shame, depression and general lack of satisfaction in life, Beth provides coaching using her personal journey of transformation and the tools that she found most effective with herself and her clients.

Over the years, Beth’s coaching has yielded results for individuals and couples that were held back in the bedroom. They have learned how to know themselves better and how to communicate with their partners to create increased intimacy and pleasure in the bedroom.

Beth’s coaching is beyond the bedroom. Her clients have consistently discovered increased passion in every area of their life as they have uncovered what was stopping them in their intimate lives. Consistently people gain ease, confidence and satisfaction in their intimate lives after working with Beth.

Bryan Duarte

Bryan Duarte is as an Entrepreneur, Engineer, Explorer, Storyteller and a Master Problem Solver. He grew up in a strong Catholic family and as is typical in most families, sex and sexuality were topics that were not discussed. However, from a very young age he always wanted to learn more about human sexuality even though that was not encouraged. Yet this was more than idle curiosity as he spent a lot of time, from the age of 12, researching this topic in the library.

Since that early age he has been on his own personal journey to better understand his own sexuality, especially for what that means for men’s sexuality inside of marriage. It was that deep desire to explore what was behind his own sexuality and what he first took for ‘Is there something wrong with me’ that also led him to become one of Beth’s clients. Through working with Beth and lots of his own personal development work, he no longer felt like there was
something to fix; there is nothing to feel shameful about or hide away from.

That role of coach and client eventually has evolved to Beth and Bryan finding opportunities to work together. In his engineering professional world, he is all about helping his clients solve their complex issues. And in telling the story from his own personal journey, he is now passionate about bringing those learnings and his ability to solve complex problems to help people discover their own personal sexuality.

As part of exploring this topic with other men, Bryan is an active member of the ‘The Universal Brotherhood’ (TUB). TUB is an inspired fraternal forum for evolutionary men who are actively committed to the concepts of Strength, Wisdom, Integrity, Prosperity and Compassion as foundations for exceptional, authentic, masculine be-ing.

Bryan currently lives in Toronto, Canada with his wife of 12 years and their 9-year old son and is actively involved in his two adult daughter’s lives, as they study and work.

Recently, Beth and Bryan were on on our show talking about Converting Religious Shame to Soulful Intimacy – A Three Part Series – Part One.

During the conversation, Beth and Bryan talked about:

– Some of their backgrounds and some of their experiences with sexuality, religion and intimacy when they were younger
– How the way they were raised effect their intimacy in their 20’s and their 30’s
– How did they met
– The percentage of Beth’s clients that have experienced religious shame and what her clients tell her when she first meets

Tara Lessard’s Story …

It was August 2015. I spent a lot of time crying by the Delaware River, just blocks from my Morrisville, Pennsylvania home. I suffered from acid reflux for a year and knew something more was wrong but didn’t know what it was. I tried diet modification, sleeping sitting up and natural remedies to no avail. I finally went to a local hospital ER in September after having extreme pain in my stomach with immense amount of pressure when I sat down. They did a CT scan and quickly admitted me to the hospital where I was told the gynecologist would provide results the next day and family should be present. It was then the doctor shared I had stage 4 ovarian cancer and there was nothing they could do for me. I was in shock. No one in my family had cancer.

I ended up starting treatment at a nearby cancer hospital. They said I was a textbook case and recommended chemotherapy and surgery – and said I would be fine. I didn’t get a sense they knew me or cared about my concerns. They didn’t see me as a unique individual.

I reached out to Cancer Treatment Centers of America after my sister researched other options. Unfortunately, I was too sick to travel, so I treated closer to home at another cancer center and underwent an aggressive plan given the cancer growth beyond the ovaries. I had debilitating pain, eventually leading to use of a wheelchair. After a few months, I learned the disease metastasized to my spleen. Doctors said I probably had two years to live. I was in my mid-40s and wanted more. I went back into research mode, consulting with multiple, well-known facilities who all said the same thing. That’s when I picked up the phone and followed through with CTCA to get another opinion.

Tara’s CTCA Experience

In March 2017, I flew to CTCA in Atlanta and met with Dr. Geisler who said, “Your cancer is my priority.” He explained he would remove the spleen and any other evidence of the disease. After surgery, I would undergo six rounds of chemotherapy and was a good candidate for a new immunotherapy drug.

I instantly loved my team and had faith in Dr. Geisler.

By late April, I was set for surgery, but got extremely sick and was admitted to the local hospital for obstructed bowel. Once released, I couldn’t eat or drink, so I went to another hospital for three weeks. They told me they wanted to operate, but I refused. I knew I needed to get back to CTCA. The doctors put in a central line for TPN, so my mom, sister and I hired a medical transport van and drove down to Atlanta so I could have surgery there.

Surgery was intense, involving my spleen, pieces of my small bowel and more. It was successful. A week later, I went back for emergency surgery followed by an extended hospital stay. The care was amazing. Everyone from Nursing, Transportation, Pastoral Care and Cancer Fighters spent time with us. Dr. Rosenberg performed adjustments to help my back, Dr. Johnson helped my side effects with acupuncture, and Physical Therapy ensured I got up to walk. After discharge, I returned to CTCA every three weeks for chemo and received my last treatment on my 45th birthday. My CA levels drastically decreased…and I remain cancer free.

I am so grateful for the entire staff at CTCA. My mom and I are now patient and caregiver advocates. We love our changing roles in this journey and are so happy we can give back by helping others. I am so grateful not to be just living, but thriving.

Additional Information:
● I live in Morrisville, Pennsylvania (north of Philadelphia)
● I love cooking, photography, making jewelry and painting
● I’m currently in a scholarship program for The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia (home to one of the world’s greatest collections of impressionist, post-impressionist and early modern paintings)
● Mom and I love being Cancer Fighter Care Net (CFCN) volunteers

All Our Own is live international audio conversation for Generation X Women of Color.

It is a safe space where Gen X Women of Color can discuss their issues with input from women of color from other generations. However, Generation X women are at the center of the conversation.

The regular panelists are: Aisha Staggers Julissa Borbon and L.A. Wade.

Tonight’s conversation topic is the 2018 American Midterm Elections.

Tonight’s special guest is Dominque Grisby of The 94 Percent.

Here is a little about The 94 Percent …

We represent the 94 percent of black women who voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Election. No, that doesn’t mean we all agreed with her politics or policies, but we understood that our nation was headed into the apocalypse. 2016 was the perfect storm for fuckery and dumbassery, and the 2016 Election was the climax. And like our mothers and grandmothers before us, we needed to give the nation a race pep talk by turning out to vote in historic numbers for…a white woman.

No, we didn’t create ourselves because of a love for Hillary Clinton, but rather the recognition that black women were once again trying to save a world that doesn’t give a shit about them.

We’ve heard it over and over again: “We should’ve done MORE to save the election.” But we did. 94 percent of us did. Why didn’t y’all do your jobs?

Oh. Because a white woman wasn’t even enough for white women.

But that’s not the point. The point is black women throughout history have put our bodies on the line to protect our families and our community, and we have gotten nothing in return for it. We compromise for the greater good of humanity to save a world from destroying itself, and in return, receive no gratification for the sacrifices and obstacles we face to help others.

So, here we are. But this time, we’re celebrating one another without the need for recognition from others. We’ve got a lot of fucking black girl magic, and we’re keeping it to ourselves.

So, welcome. Kick off your shoes, take off your bra, and relax.

During the conversation, the ladies talked about:

– The story behind The 94 Percent
– Some thoughts about the last American presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton’s Campaign and white women
– How women of color in America and Canada getting more involved in politics and some of the barriers that they are facing
– Some thoughts about the current midterms campaign
– Latino American support of the Republican party

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a neurodegenerative disease found in people who have had multiple head injuries. Symptoms may include behavioral problems, mood problems, and problems with thinking. This typically does not begin until years after the injuries. It often gets worse over time and can result in dementia. It is unclear if the risk of suicide is altered.

Most documented cases have occurred in athletes involved in contact sports such as American football, wrestling, boxing, ice hockey, rugby and soccer. Other risk factors include being in the military, prior domestic violence, and repeated banging of the head. The exact amount of trauma required for the condition to occur is unknown. Definitive diagnosis can only occur at autopsy. It is a form of tauopathy.

As of 2018, there is no specific treatment. Rates of disease have been found to be about 30% among those with a history of multiple head injuries. Population rates, however, are unclear. Research into brain damage as a result of repeated head injuries began in the 1920s, at which time the condition was known as dementia pugilistica or “punch drunk syndrome”. Changing the rules in some sports has been discussed as a means of prevention.

Over the next few Mondays live at 9 p.m. Eastern at , The Dr. Vibe Show™ and The Good Men Project will hosting You, me & CTEYou, me & CTE is a series of conversations on and about Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

Karen and Doug Zegel, are the mother and step-father of Patrick Risha, an All-Conference running back in high school and at Dartmouth College. Patrick suffered from CTE, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, before he took his own life at the age of 32. They founded the Patrick Risha CTE Awareness Foundation. Along with the informative website StopCTE.org and social media pages, the foundation works to provide parents of school age children (who have very susceptible brains) with information about the dangers of sports which involve head trauma. The foundation also works to open the avenues for brain donations for research and awareness. And the foundation is also striving to increase awareness of the prevalence of CTE in our society in ex-athletes, veterans, and victims of domestic abuse.

Recently, Karen and Doug were on our show. During our conversation, they talked about:

– Some of their backgrounds
– The loss of their thirty-two year old son, Patrick, to CTE
– Some memories of their son and life as a football family
– Dealing with Patrick’s health and emotional challenges
– Finding out about CTE after their son passed away and dealing with the fact that Patrick was misdiagnosed
– The medical profession not being up to speed when it comes to CTE
– Karen believing that no one should play football unless they know that they are going to ruin their brain and suffer brain trauma
– The growth of flag football and increased awareness in regards to CTE and brain trauma
– The initial reaction to their campaign and opponents to their campaign
– What role should government have in dealing with CTE
– Their calls to action

Warren Clarke is the curator of the Barber Shop Talk Series.

Recently, Mr. Clarke was on our show talking about the Barber Shop Talk Series Vol. 2: Black masculinity.

During our conversation, Mr. Clarke talked about:

– Some of his background and his journey of masculinity
– Why and when did his passion for education change
– His choice to study anthropology
– The story behind the Barber Shop Talk Vol. 1 and some memories of the first event
– when he started planning Volume Two and the story behind three cities hosting this event
– The themes for Volume Two
– What is so special about Black men and barbershops
– His thoughts on perception, expectation and representation in relationship to Black masculinity
– How Black masculinity is viewed by society
– The difference between Black masculinity and White masculinity
– The effect of hip hop on black masculinity
– What will make Volume Two successful

On Wednesday, July 11th, 2018 Barber Shop Talk Series: Black masculinity is hosting three social events in three separate cities (Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa) which explores the social development of young Black men by the women who raise them.

When:

Wednesday, July 11th, 2018

Time:

6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Where:

Toronto (location: University of Toronto – Transitional Year Program, 123 St. George St. Toronto, Ontario)

Montreal:

Dynasty studio’s: 330 St Jacques St. Montréal, Québec

Ottawa:

Cultural Arts Studio: 40 Colonnade Rd. Ottawa, Ontario

These events seek to understand how young Black men socially construct their masculinities in a Canadian context. Knowing that anti-Black racism and negative stereotypes exist within our Canadian societies, which impede Black men’s upward mobility, the idea is to disrupt such social norms. Building upon a previous dialogue about Black Canadian masculinities, we are encouraging positive social outcomes for Black men and boys, but also the community members they are in relation with.

The purpose of three cities is to understand the lived experiences of the development of Black masculinity from an Anglo-phone and Franco-phone perspective.

Guests have the opportunity to participate in our live discussions at either of the three events (maximum of 20 people). For those who are unable to attend the event, they have the opportunity to access remotely to one of the three cities of their choice.

ATTENDANCE

If you plan on attending the event, please note that SPACES ARE LIMITED, and priority is given on a first come first serve basis.

People who are interested in the event are asked to RSVP, which will help us manage the available space. Twenty people will be accommodated in each city’s event, which allows people to speak and share opinions.

Cyndy Feasel, the author of After the Cheering Stops, is an elementary school art teacher in Mesquite, Texas. She grew up in the Dallas suburb of Garland and attended Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, where she met Grant Feasel, a center on the Abilene Wildcats football team.

After graduation, she became a primary school teacher and married Grant, who was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in 1983. For the next ten years, Grant played in the NFL although he lost two seasons to knee injuries. In total, Grant played 117 games and was a three-year starter for the Seattle Seahawks.

Following Grant’s retirement, the family moved back to the Dallas area, where Grant and Cyndy raised three children: Sean, Sarah, and Spencer.

Grant started drinking to dull the pain that began in a brain muddled by a history of repetitive trauma and symptomatic concussions. Neither of them knew at the time that he was slowly drinking himself to death—a lingering process that took nearly twenty years. There was collateral damage: their marriage was destroyed, their three children were greatly impacted, and Cyndy was left financially reeling. All because her husband played a violent game that entertained tens of millions of football fans every Sunday.

Since Grant’s death in 2012 at the age of 52, Cyndy has been sharing her story as a precautionary tale of what can happen when loved ones play a sport with inherit risks that wreak tremendous physical damage.

Cyndy makes her home in the Dallas area. Her website is www.cyndyfeasel.com.

During our conversation, Ms. Feasel talked about:

– Life growing up in Texas including how her and Grant met and it was love at first site
– how Grant got involved in professional football even though it was his first choice
– That they were uneducated about concussions during Grant’s career and his experiences with head injuries
– Grant getting hooked on opiates which led to his starting to drink alcohol
– Grant becoming unmanageable at the end of his life due to CTE
– The story behind the book
– Her campaign about prevent young people playing football
– How some parents are preventing there kids from playing football
– Her concerns on how the NFL is dealing with players getting head injuries
– What changes would she like to see when it comes to football and CTE
– Here call to action for young kids, the NCAA, the NFL and parents

It often gets worse over time and can result in dementia. It is unclear if the risk of suicide is altered.

Most documented cases have occurred in athletes involved in contact sports such as American football, wrestling, boxing, ice hockey, rugby and soccer.
